At ACPET, we are preparing to launch transdisciplinary learning opportunities that connect sustainability science, climate change, and the social dimensions of people-centric energy transitions.

Course title: CL(AI)MATE: Sustainability Science and People-centric Energy Transition

A flagship course in this direction will be the upcoming CL(AI)MATE course at Ashoka University to be offered jointly with InfoEdge Centre for Entrepreneurship. Designed to introduce students to the intersections of people-centric energy transition, agriculture, infrastructure, sustainability science and climate policy, the course will also equip learners with advanced AI/ML approaches to analyse complex sustainability challenges. This four-credit elective (open to UG, PG, and YIF cohorts) is planned for the Monsoon Semester of AY 2025–26, with a total of 39 hours of teaching and engagement.

Course title: People-centric Energy Transition

This course examines the principles and practices of a people-centric energy transition, emphasizing the intersection of energy systems, governance, policy, and social inclusion. Students will explore the evolution of energy transitions in India and globally, assessing their implications for climate action, health, livelihoods, and equitable economic growth.

Key topics include energy supply and demand dynamics, power sector reforms, innovative financing mechanisms such as carbon and concessional finance, and case studies on sustainable energy models. The course also addresses future policy outlooks, covering international climate negotiations, geopolitical influences, and emerging policy tools, such as carbon markets, taxes, and subsidies.

By the end of the course, students will gain a holistic understanding of how policies, finance, and community engagement shape equitable and sustainable pathways for low-carbon development.
